

Evelyn Joyce Peters was known as many things to many people. She was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew her best, Evelyn will be remembered as a very exceptional person in numerous ways.
Evelyn was born January 12, 1934, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She spent her time growing up in both Oklahoma and Texas. Evelyn grew up with an older sister Loraine. Evelyn was involved in all sorts of activities and shared many life experiences over the years with her sister.
A typical teenager, Evelyn had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. She graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1952, of where she met her high school sweetheart John Otto Peters. She enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers.
Upon graduating high school, Evelyn and John married each other on July 4, 1952. Empathic and loyal, Evelyn was committed to making her new family happy. Evelyn worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. Evelyn was blessed with four children; three sons, Charlie, Kenneth and Michael and one daughter, Cynthia.
Fortunately, Evelyn enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Evelyn worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career. Her primary occupation was an emergency management coordinator. She was employed for over 20 years for the City of Austin. Evelyn always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Evelyn enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were collecting owls, sewing and crocheting. Throughout her life, Evelyn was a doer and was always actively involved in professional and community organizations. Evelyn was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and played in active role in her community by serving on the Oak Hill Volunteer Fire Department alongside John.
Evelyn’s faith was important to her. She was a charter member at Oak Hill United Methodist Church. During that time, she was a founding member of the church. Evelyn enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for her to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Evelyn was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. One of her favorites was Felisha the black cat.
Evelyn was blessed with the gift of eleven grandchildren, Richard, Brian, Cody, Britni, Blaine, Brianna, Jennifer, Ryan, Matthew, Melanie, and Madelynn.
Evelyn passed away on April 23, 2016, at Seton Medical Center, Austin, Texas. Evelyn was laid to rest in Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
Simply stated, Evelyn was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, and someone who was a very vital part of their lives. Evelyn leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose lives she touched will always remember Evelyn Joyce Peters.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M., Friday, April 29, 2016, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, followed by a Graveside Service at 1:00 P.M., at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park, officiating by Pastor Bob Brydon.
