Florence Rosa Maxey passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on Sunday January 20, 2019. She was born on December 17, 1926 to Henry and Mary Miller in Del Valle, Texas. She married her love, Edward John Maxey, in December 1947 who preceded her in death in 2010.
As a working mom, Florence and her husband worked diligently to provide a very good childhood for their daughter and son. She worked as an administrative assistant in several companies in Austin finally retiring from Tracor, Inc.
She loved to host gatherings at their home in south Austin for family and friends. She and her husband loved to travel both as a family and in later years Florence and Ed traveled to numerous places in the US and Mexico with a travel trailer.
Florence was very artistic and during retirement she made beautiful items in stained glass and pieces of jewelry. She also loved gardening and all things purple.
She was very independent and loving. She was caregiver to her husband in his last years and was always willing to help others when there was a need. She defended her wish to stay in her home in later years moving to assisted living only a few months before her passing.
Florence is survived by her daughter Sandra O’Connor, son Dwayne and wife Milly, her sister Jennie Lee Taylor, granddaughter Misha Lesly Kubena, grandson Cory Lesly and wife Audra, eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 27 6:00-8:00 pm at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
Service with Reception following will be held Monday, Jan 28,2019 at 11:00 am at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church at 606 West 15th Street in Austin.
