Florence Irene Wright of Austin, Texas, was called home to her Heavenly Father on April 15, 2026, at the age of 97. She was born in McAllen, Texas, the third of eleven children born to Herman T. and Clara Krause on August 19, 1928. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in McAllen, Texas, by Reverend John G. Elser.
Florence grew up on a citrus and produce farm. Since their home was in the Edinburg school district, she received all of her education in Edinburg, plus two years of Junior College. In 1947, she came to Austin to live with her sister Ruth. She began as a bookkeeper and then switched to the banking industry.
On December 3, 1949, she married her beloved husband, Weldon Ray Wright. They were finally blessed with two lovely daughters. So she quit work to stay at home and raise their girls. Sadly, Ray was taken from this Earth in 1983. Then Florence went back to work in the banking industry, from which she retired in 1993.
After retirement, she volunteered for the South Austin Caregivers, Bethesda Thrift Store, and Bethany Lutheran Church. She loved the Lord and spent a lot of time in the House of the Lord. She always felt a need to help others. Florence was a charter member of Bethany and loved being a part of their organization. She spent many happy hours with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, games, sewing, quilting, needle crafts, and family reunions.
Florence is survived by her two daughters, Janell (husband, Mark) Fleischauer and Pam (husband, Peter) Schmitz; her grandchildren, Matthew (wife, Krystyn) Fleischauer, Sara Fleischauer, Alexander Schmitz, Emily Schmitz, Olivia (husband, Luke) Mathews, Isabella Schmitz, and Ethan Schmitz; and one great-grandchild, Kyra Mathews. She is also survived by five sisters, Ruth Wright, Caroline Hamilton, Mac Harris, Jeannette (husband, Dave) Graham, Margaret (husband, Homer) Inlow; and three sisters-in-law, Gwen Krause, Evelyn Krause, and Pat Krause; and many nieces, nephews and loved ones.
Florence is preceded in death by her husband, Ray; her parents; and five brothers, Victor Krause, John Krause, Edward Krause, Walter Krause and Harold Krause; and one brother-in-law, Edgar Wright.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 9, at 10:30 am at Bethany Lutheran Church, 3701 W Slaughter Lane, Austin, TX 78749. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am and a reception from 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm.
