In a world of change, he was a model of constancy. He stayed in Austin his entire life; lived from February 1940 until his death in the house he built on Sinclair Avenue in the Rosedale neighborhood; and remained married to Florence Swearingen Preece for 72 years.
Toddy spent his childhood in the Preece family home on Alice Avenue, (which is now called Medical Parkway). After graduating from Austin High, he became a carpenter. Along with his father and brothers, he contracted and built many houses in Rosedale, Hyde Park, Tarrytown, and other local neighborhoods.
He is survived by his wife Florence, his son Forrest, Jr., his sister Dickie Pattillo, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six of his brothers and sisters. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 6th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar. A graveside service will be held in Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Drive, at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 7th.
