

Frances Senkel Hawley of Austin passed from this world on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Frances Odell Senkel in Taylor, Texas on February 3, 1938. In 1944, Frances moved to Austin from Hutto with her family. Her business career began in insurance in 1955, where she met husband Steve K. Hawley. The couple were married in 1956 and both continued careers with CIGNA until 1970. For the next four years, Frances worked at Texas Instruments in Austin until she and Steve opened The Red Keg, a restaurant/bar they sold in 1986. The couple then retired to a ranch in Goldthwaite, Texas. When Steve passed away in 1990, Frances moved back to Austin and enjoyed her staff position at the Public Utility Commission of Texas until retirement in 2002. She is also preceded in death by her parents Albert and Mabel Senkel, and aunt Ruth Bartholomew. Frances found great joy in her family and her special pets; in particular, two Longhorns who shared the Goldthwaite ranch. She is survived by sister Dorothy Stevens and her husband Edgar of Austin; brother Clarence Senkel and his wife Martha of Leander; and brother Gilbert Senkel of Leander. Also, brother-in-law Jim Hawley and his wife Edie of Austin. Along with many nieces and nephews, Frances leaves behind her devoted friend and companion Grady Matt Roberts and his family. She was especially fond of her co-workers at the Public Utility Commission of Texas. Friends and family can gather on Friday, March 26, 2004 from 7 - 9 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Final services will be at 2 pm Saturday, March 27, 2004 at the same location. Burial will be in Austin Memorial Park.
