Frank, Vikki and Jo

Around 1990. 

A very young Frank who was still called Frankie, with his wonderful Daddy Banjo, an instrument he made from a guitar neck attached to an electrified snare drum, and for which he became quite famous in the Houston music community. 

Frank was born in Bellflower, California, now a suburb of Los Angeles, in 1941, while his father Samuel Francis Davis was still in the US Navy. Shortly after that the family moved to Houston, Texas, where his mother, Laura Smalley’s family lived. 
A few years later two little daughters, Victoria and Laura Jo completed the family.


Frank was the best man at my wedding to Paul Kuenstler.  Quickly I came to appreciate exactly who he is . A sweet ,
charming,  funny man with the Big Daddy Banjo. 
  He stayed in Port Lavaca with us for a week or so.  It was hard to get Frank out of Houston. 
  I remember when a scientist from France came to visit Frank because he was interested in the hologram kit made for 3rd grader.  Imagine that!
  Before he moved to the bayou, in his house there was a 2 headed coyote in his entryway . Stuffed of course .
He gave out pencil ties. Lead on 1 end eraser on the other end. It was bright yellow and about 1/4 inch thick and quite long.  A blast had by all.
  I have many stories of Frank Davis. 
  Oh here's 1 more.  In the 7th grade guys were being cool and wearing their pants low. Really low. Frank came to school with his pants around his knees held up by a belt I think. Walking in very casually as though it was any old day and nothing unusual.  Picture him if you will. 🤣🤣❤❤❤❤RIP Frank Davis.
You live forever in my heart 
I can't wait to share more gems
It feels like Frank has been gone so long 
because of the hole in life .

Dear Ones, 
I remember so many funny things Frank did and said, I don’t know which one to start with. 
Once he made a giant Mylar balloon elephant, filled it with gas, and released it into the Montrose airspace where it became a momentary nuisance on airport radar.
It was a delight to watch but it attained altitude so rapidly it was out of sight in 5 minutes.
