Frank H. Hall of Buda, Texas died Saturday, May 18, 2019 of cancer. Born in Atlanta, GA to Frank Sr. and Lois Hall on June 17, 1932, he moved to Harlingen in 1946 where he played high school basketball for the Harlingen Cardinals. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1951, serving 4 years as a photographer on the aircraft carrier USS WASP. While serving, he married Louise Smothers in 1952. Once his enlistment was completed, he attended the University of Houston School of Architecture, graduating in 1960. His professional career took him to Corpus Christie, Houston, Washington D.C, and Austin. While in the nation’s capital, he worked on the plans for the New National Archives Building and when he moved back to Texas, he ensured that rest stops in the Texas were accessible to the disabled. He and Louise lived in Corpus Christie after he graduated UH, Houston between 1976 and 1986, Gaithersburg, Maryland from then until 1996 when they made the last move and permanent home in Austin, Texas in 1996.
Frank is preceded in death by his son Steve and younger brother Bob . He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Louise as well as son Joel, daughter-in-law Nancy and their sons Reid and David. He is also survived by Steve’s wife Karin Dunn, brother Ed Hall and his wife Cathy and niece and nephews Stephanie, Eddy and Mike. And not to be forgotten are several cousins and extended family and his many friends!
Frank only had best wishes and good intentions for everyone and everything. He was a plethora of information and knowledge on many subjects. He enjoyed bluegrass music and loved playing his dobro guitars. Hopefully there is a band in heaven saving a chair for him to sit and join in – with his son Steve.
God Speed Frank, we love you and will miss you. And yes, your 87 years was a good run!
