Frank Medrano was born on January 21, 1938 in George West, Texas. He died on September 7, 2010 in Austin, Texas. The Medrano/Hinojosa family moved to Austin in 1955 where he met his wife and they married in March of 1962. He was a devoted husband to Margaret Medrano for over 48 years, a wonderful father to Sylvia Vidaurri and Frank Medrano, Jr. and a terrific grandfather to Bethany and Eric Vidaurri and father-in-law to Edward Vidaurri.
After arriving in Austin, Frank received his GED and a few years later attended Central Texas College for Drafting and Design. He worked for Willard Manufacturing and Design as a welder in the ‘60s until 1970 when he started F.M. Welding. As a welder he designed and fabricated metal art, besides doing the normal window and door guards. One such art welding project that he was truly proud of was his work at the gates of St. Luke on the Lake. There are several biblical scenes on the gates that he portrayed in a welding design. He was so proud of it and he laughed many times when he told us you could see Hippy Hollow from the church.
Medical miracles. He was revived twice after a cardiac arrest at age 49. He told Margaret that he had gone to such a wonderful place that was so peaceful that he could not describe it in words and that he wanted for her to go back with him to experience this peace. At age 59 he had an aneurysm, which disabled him slightly, but he kept working until around age 62. At that time he retired from welding. Ten years later, age 69, he had a stroke, but he still kept his smile. He always said that God performed miracles, and he was a walking testimony to that. On Sept 7, 2010, the Lord called him home. He did not suffer. His heart just stopped and his spirit left to be with his Lord.
Frank loved the Lord and his church family. He attended Trinity Abundant Life on Cumberland Road for over 30 years. He actually helped in building the church. He was also a co-founder of the Greater East Austin Optimist and helped raise thousands of dollars for the children of Austin in need and also helped in raising money for college scholarships.
Frank was preceded in death by his father and mother, Alvino and Catalina Medrano; his son, Frank Medrano, Jr.; his brothers, Robert Hinojosa, Genero Hinojosa; sister, Lucille Longoria.
He is survived by Maria Antoinette Melendez and Armando Trevino, children, and Jesus Medrano, Joe Medrano and Richard “Rocky” Medrano, his brothers.
Frank will be truly missed by his family and friends. He always had a smile to give and kind words to say. His faith in Jesus helped him throughout his life. He knew who gave and sustained his life and ultimately called him home.
Visitation will be held from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm on Wednesday, September 08, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
