Major Franklin K Busse Air Force Ret., left this life at Seton Northwest ICU surrounded by his loved ones, slipping the surly bonds of Earth to touch the face of God. He was born in Templeton, PA on September 23, 1931 to Paul E. Busse and Edna Bell.
He lived in Baltimore, MD during Elementary School with his two brothers Carl Edward Busse and Paul Morris Busse. They moved to Louisville, KY where he went to Junior High, and Male High School. He was on the football team and track team. He went to Western Kentucky State Teachers College on a football scholarship. He left Western Kentucky State Teachers College and enlisted in the Air Force. Frank applied for pilot training and began his career as an Air Force jet pilot. In his tour of duty in Bryan, TX he met June Marie Taylor, after one and a half years of dating they married in 1957. Two sons were born to them, Dr. F. Keith Busse JR and Steven Taylor Busse. Frank graduated from University of Nebraska in Omaha. He served in Japan for three years, he also served in Korea, Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, and was in Vietnam for one year before returning to Texas.
After retiring he began a career in real estate sales, then real estate appraisal at First Federal Savings, then back to appraisal as a broker. He continued by working at the Travis County Appraisal Review Board for several years. In 1994, when his son F. Keith Busse JR MD opened his office as a Pediatric Ophthalmologist, Frank and June began working with him.
A visit to see Neurologist Robert M. Cain in September 2009, revealed not only a long suspected Alzheimer’s diagnosis, but more importantly he detected an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm that was in immediate need of surgery. That October, Surgeon Phillip J. Church placed a stent in his aorta allowing Frank to enjoy nearly two more years of a wonderfully full life. After recovering, he continued to open his son’s medical practice for another year (something he did nearly 17 years), where he continued to be a productive member of the staff until he retired in March 2011. Although he was no longer able to express himself the way he wanted, he never allowed that to dampen his absolute devotion for his wife and family. It was truly a blessing to have been able to be there to help him when he needed help at the end because he so rarely ever asked for it.
Frank leaves his wife of 53 years, June M. Busse, his sons Steven Taylor Busse, F. Keith Busse JR MD and wife Lena J. Salha DDS, two beloved grandchildren Christine Busse, and Philippe Busse. His brother in law Jimmy W. Taylor also survives him as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 27, 2011 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel on North Lamar with Monsignor Bill Brooks conducting the services. Burial with Masonic services will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made in Frank’s name to The Alzheimer’s Association or Capital Area Food Bank.
