Freddie Ramon Richter

Freddie Ramon Richter passed away peacefully in Pflugerville, Texas on August 24, 2026, at the age of 87. Freddie was born on February 11,1939, in Fedor, Texas, to Herbert and Gertrude Richter and grew up in nearby Giddings, Texas where he spent his early years surrounded by family and friends.

Rather than finishing his high school education, Freddie enlisted in the United States Air Force in late 1959/1960. Shortly after enlisting, he married Dorothy Mae Neumeyer on June 25, 1960.

Freddie's military career took off where he served in Korean and the Vietnam war and eventually served his country for more than 21 years of dedicated service as a heavy-duty mechanic. Freddie became not only a decorated veteran, but eventually, he was ready to stop traveling to a new location every couple of years and was ready to retire from the military and settle down in Austin, Texas.

However, once Freddie and Dorothy moved back to Austin, Freddie didn’t stop working. He went on to work for the City of Austin Police Department as a mechanic, Bergstrom AFB as a Civil Service employee and finally, an equipment rental company where he decided he would call his last and final retirement in 2002,

Through all this, Freddie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose life was marked by service, passion, and love.

Freddie was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Gertrude Richter, his brother Herbert August Andrew Richter (a.k.a. Jr.), and his sister Dorothy Ann Cook,

He is survived by his wife Dorothy, of 66 years, and his cherished children, Brenda Kay Vrabel and husband Mark, and Marvin Wayne Richter and wife Pam.

His legacy extends to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which were the purest source of his joy. Kyle Richter and wife Colleen, and their children: Molly, Ella, and Harrison. Caity Yanda and husband Mike, and their children: Paige, Mason, and Cooper.

Freddie is also survived by his brother Kenneth Richter and wife Barbara and their children: Karl Richter, Gretchen Norton and her husband Kris, Jonathan Richter and his wife Bridgette and their son Owen. Freddie also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews that are all loved and special to him and the family.

Throughout Freddie’s life he was a committed member of Christ Lutheran Church always arriving early, and there to take care of his responsibilities. He served as an Usher, Head Usher, and on the Board of Trustees. As Freddie’s body didn’t allow him to contribute in his responsibilities to the church as he had previously done, he changed over to the responsibility of “holding court” or “greeting” everyone from the annex in the back of the church as they entered the Sanctuary. There everyone could learn about his latest updates from the previous week.

In Freddie's younger days his passions included his family, “mechanacking,” the Dallas Cowboys, fishing, and NASCAR. Marvin will tell you he was an “incredible mechanic”. If you asked dad why he didn’t want to be a mechanic for NASCAR though, he would tell you “because he didn’t like the speed of it”. Unfortunately, as Alzheimer’s took over dad’s life and his memory, two things never changed. The love he had for his family and his love for being a mechanic. Freddie spent his last five plus years living in a memory care facility. However, by the grace of God, “dad and the Lord above worked out an arrangement” where dad believed whole heartedly that he was on another work assignment for the Air Force which made it ok for him that he was away from his family because he was still doing his mechanic work every day we went to visit him.

As Freddie’s Alzheimer’s progressed and he lived in a Memory Care facility, his family saw a side of him not many previously knew existed. Over the years Freddie was passionately known for his warm smile and rosy to cheeks and could almost certainly charm every caregiver that crossed his path. Freddie’s harsh exterior softened and the gentle soul that was always inside blossomed and a loving, father and husband appeared.

Regardless of whether you knew Freddie from long ago or you only met him in the recent years, he had a way of touching all who met him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 1 from 5-8pm at Weed-Corley-Fish located at 2620 S Congress, Austin, Tx 78704.

The Funeral service will be Wednesday, September 2 at 10am at Christ Lutheran Church located at 300 E. Monroe, Austin, Tx 78704.

The Graveside service will be September 2 at 3:30pm at Memorial Oaks located at 13001 Katy Road, Houston, TX 77024.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Honor of Freddie, to the Christ Lutheran Church - General Fund.
