Freddie Lou Scott was born on her family's farm near Lockett, Texas close to Vernon on Sept. 28, 1931. She passed into the presence of her heavenly Father on May 22, 2010 surrounded by her immediate family. Freddie's father, Johnathan Fred Lewis was a farmer. Her mother, Lula Mae Lewis was a housewife. Together they raised four sons and two daughters. A third sister, Imogene, died before Freddie was born. The Lewis family's lives centered on church, school and the farm. Freddie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior when she was 12 years of age. When Freddie was born, her older sister named her Freddie Lou after their father and mother. Little did they know Freddie would have problems with her name for the rest of her life! In high school, she was assigned a locker with all the boys. On assignment with her husband in Europe, she actually received a draft notice and throughout her life, she received mail addressed to Mr. Freddie Scott. A minor irritant, Freddie dealt with the uniqueness of her name with signature grace and poise. Freddie graduated from South Lockett High School near Vernon, Texas and attended Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. That is where she met husband John Noel Scott, Jr. and "life really began." John and Freddie were married on May 24, 1952 and started life together in Bartlesville, Oklahoma where John was employed with Phillips Petroleum Company. John and Freddie's three children were all born in Oklahoma. But over the years, the Scott family called many places home: Bartlesville, (4 times), Brussels (Belgium), Houston (twice), Dallas, Washington D.C., Denver and ultimately Austin. (Freddie has joked that her brothers thought John must have problems keeping a job which would explain why they moved so much!) John and Freddie have lived in Lakeway, Texas for the past 19 years, longer than anyplace else. Freddie is survived by her husband of 58 years, John N. Scott, Jr.; son John N. Scott III and his wife Gail of Kingwood, Texas; daughter Carolyn Lou Scott of San Diego, California; and daughter Eura Kay Frank and her husband Hardy also of Kingwood, Texas. Freddie's grandchildren, of whom she is immensely proud, are Amanda Rae and Justin Hicks of Keller, Texas; John N. Scott IV of Arlington, Texas; Jarrett Wayne Scott of Kingwood, Texas; Erin Scott Arbuckle of New York, N.Y.; and Kate Scott Arbuckle of San Diego, California. Other survivors include sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. All of Freddie's siblings preceded her in death. Prior to her passing, Freddie offered particular thanks to her "precious husband" for taking such good care of her; to her children whose calls and visits she treasured; to her grandchildren who were all able to visit for what would be Freddie's last Christmas in 2009; to the Lakeway Church and Pastors Ron and Brent; to the many friends who visited and brought meals; and to Robin Young, her caregiver. In Freddie's own words: "May God bless all of you until we will meet again in Heaven." The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 26 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home located at 411 Ranch Road 620 N. in Lakeway. A Memorial service in Freddie's honor will be held on Thursday, May 27 at 2:00 pm in the Lakeway Church, 2203 Lakeway Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorial contributions to The Lakeway Church Foundation/Building Fund in Freddie's memory.
