Fredrick Mark Smith, Jr. died unexpectedly in his home in Austin on July 28, 2015. Mark was born in Waco, TX to Rick and Kathy Smith on June 9, 1967. He lived his life mostly in both Waco and Austin.
Mark was always in the food service business as an adult and even as a teenager. His management jobs took him to adventures in Cleveland, Philadelphia, Dallas, Charlotte, and Houston as well as Austin. He had both a love and talent for the restaurant business. He never met a kitchen or grill that he didn't like and he was a masterful cook.
After graduating from Richfield High School in Waco he attended Texas Tech University and McLennan Community College. Mark played soccer in high school, and he loved everything about water and lakes. He was an accomplished barefoot skier in his younger years. He also had no fear on the ski slopes of Colorado and New Mexico. And he always enjoyed an occasional round of golf with family and friends.
He loved music, playing his guitar, and passionately listening to Amos Lee, Eva Cassidy, James Taylor, and the Eagles. He especially enjoyed going to the History of the Eagles Tour stop in Austin with his parents this past May.
Mark, was an active participant in the Waco Episcopal junior high and senior high youth groups. He served many years as an acolyte at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Waco. These church involvements were the foundation for his ongoing belief in and love for the Lord.
He adored Rick and Kathy's Norwich Terriers, Milo and Maggie, and they truly loved him never leaving his side when he was with them. Mark had a caring heart and gentle spirit with all the family pet dogs over the years.
Mark is survived by his mother, Kathy, and his father, Rick, of Austin; his brother, David and his fiance, Brandi Erwerle, of Waco; his uncle, Steve Smith, of Sugarland, his uncle J. W.
