Gary was born on August 4, 1957, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Lloyd and Alice Morgan. He graduated from Del Valle High School and went on to attend Blinn College in College Station before transferring to The University of Texas at Austin, where he completed his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Gary was a quiet, hardworking man with a playful sense of humor and a kind heart. He found joy in the simple things in life, including cooking and working on crossword puzzles. In his younger years, he played the trumpet throughout high school and college and later spent time on the softball field, where he was known for his powerful swing at the plate. He also had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening, with memories of picking vegetables from the garden still cherished by his family.
While in college, Gary began working at Callahan’s General Store and built a career there spanning more than 35 years, eventually serving as an Account Manager before his recent retirement. Throughout his career, he built lasting relationships and was known for being friendly, dependable, and someone others enjoyed working with.
Throughout his life, Gary found meaning and connection through his faith. He was a longtime member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for over 40 years, where he attended every Sunday and served as church treasurer for many years. He cherished the friendships he made there and the sense of belonging he found in the “Little Church with a Big Heart.”
Gary was also a proud father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his son Zachary, his wife Lauren, and their daughter on the way; his daughter Brittany, her husband Keyon, and their son Ilan, who brought Gary great joy over the last four years; and his brother Lloyd Keith and his wife Sherrie. He is also survived by his nephews Darrell and Skyler, his niece Laura and her husband Kurt, and their sons Zayden, Bryker, and Brantly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Alice Morgan; his aunts Frances and Lucille Sassman; and his uncle Dan Sassman.
Gary will be remembered for his kindness, humility, and humor. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on July 20, 2026, at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service. An off-site reception will follow the service, and all are invited to gather and share memories of Gary. Details regarding the reception location will be shared during the service.
