George proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for the City of Austin and retired as a Supervisor for the Parks and Recreation Department.
He was a long-time member of Kinney Avenue Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. George loved hunting, fishing, and just being with his family. He will be missed.
He leaves his loving wife of 67 years, Porfiria (Gallegos) Gonzales; three beloved daughters, Sylvia Chandler, Cynthia Velasquez, and Cookie Spruell; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; numerous other relatives; and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, April 26, 2018 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with Dr. Ken Baldwin officiating. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
