George A Meihaus III

He was born on March 11, 1948, in Fort Worth, Texas, to George Meihaus Jr. and Margaret Schwarz Meihaus. George had wonderful parents and many cherished childhood memories. His family summer vacations to Lake City, Colorado, began his love for the mountains.

George attended Arlington Heights Elementary School and Stripling Middle School in Fort Worth before attending Allen Military Academy in Bryan–College Station, where he remained through junior college. It was at the Academy, and through the guidance of his parents, that he developed the discipline, resilience, and integrity that would define him throughout his life. He also formed many lifelong friendships during his years at Allen Military Academy.

Following graduation, George began his career with Texas Industries (TXI), a leading cement, ready-mix, and aggregate company in Fort Worth. In 1980, he transferred to Austin, Texas. His most rewarding time with the company was serving as Operations Manager of the Ready-Mix Division. He had a wonderful career at TXI for more than 40 years. In Austin, he furthered his education by completing several management programs through the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin.

George retired from TXI in 2012, but retirement didn’t last long. Two weeks later, he joined AmeriTex Pipe & Products, specializing in TxDOT and specialty product sales. He often said AmeriTex was his “dream job” and believed it had the finest management team of any company he worked for during his career. He was grateful to be part of a company that felt like family, where he continued to build lasting friendships.

George was an active member of the Associated General Contractors (AGC), an organization he greatly enjoyed and through which he formed many valued friendships.

While living in Austin, George met the love of his life and best friend, Carolyn. He loved telling the story of the first time he saw her: “I’m going to marry that girl... and I did.” They were married in 1991 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church.

George loved spending time on the golf course with his many friends, creating memories and friendships he treasured throughout his life. He also looked forward to summer trips with Carolyn to the family condo in Gunni son, Colorado, surrounded by the Colorado mountains.

He and Carolyn shared a love for their land in Leander, Texas, where he delighted in feeding treats to his pet cows, especially his handsome longhorn, Christmas. He looked forward each time to seeing what wildlife he might discover on the property.

At St. Matthew’s, George faithfully served as an usher and as a member of the Memorial Gardens Committee. Together, George and Carolyn built a wonderful life centered on faith, family, and a shared love of animals. Over the years, they welcomed several rescue cats into their home. George leaves behind three beloved feline companions, Coco, Jax, and Blue, who brought him tremendous joy.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Margareth “Marty” Meihaus Craddock; his brother-in-law, Michael Craddock; and his niece, Amber Croslin.

George is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn Davis Meihaus; his son, George Andrew Meihaus, and his wife, Robin Kriza Meihaus; his daughters, Stephanie Meihaus Nordhaus and her husband, Scott Nordhaus, and Marissa Meihaus Howard and her husband, Hunter Howard; his grandchildren, George and Benjamin Mei haus, Finley Nordhaus, and Cole, Sutton, and Knox Howard; his step-grandchildren, Lauren Nordhaus Frizzell and Brandyn Nordhaus; his sister-in-law, Margaret Moser; his niece, Monica Buskuhl; his nephews, Frank Craddock and John Craddock; and many dear friends.

George was a wonderful, kind, and generous man. He was loved and admired by those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with a Celebration of Life will follow.
