

George White Shaw died peacefully at home on Friday, February 6, after a long illness. He was born in Three Sands, Oklahoma, on February 28, 1927, to Thomas Floyd Shaw and Elizabeth Armstrong Shaw. The family moved to Magnolia, Arkansas, in 1940. Enlisting in the U.S. navy at 17, George served in the Pacific theater during WWII. When the war ended, he returned to Magnolia, where he met his life's companion, Geraldine Smith. They were married on December 13, 1947.
After graduating from what is now Southern Arkansas University, George began his career with Sunray DX Oil Company and, after a merger, Sun Oil Company (Sunoco, Inc.) He served in various positions in Terre Haute, Indiana; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Overland Park, Kansas; Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. George and Geraldine were blessed with their only child, Susan, while in Terre Haute. He also earned a Master's degree in economics at Indiana State University.
George was a dedicated Christian and, while his health allowed, was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Austin. An ordained Elder, he served on Session and various committees.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Wanda Shaw Bushnell, Gwendolyn Shaw Autin, Floyd Shaw, Jr., his stepmother, Lucy Ellington Shaw, and stepsister, Alice Pennybaker Hawkins. Survivors are his wife of 67 years, Geraldine Smith Shaw, daughter, Susan Armstrong Shaw, siblings Loretta Shaw Boyce, Tommy L. Shaw, Donald M. Shaw, Bonnie Shaw Underhill, Connie Shaw Sims, and Michael Shaw. He is also survived by numerous well-loved nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank his many caregivers with Hospice Compassus and Bright Star Care, who helped him enjoy his last days at home. In lieu of flowers, if anyone wishes to honor his memory, they suggest donations to First Presbyterian Church or the charity of one's choice.
Memorial Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 10th of February 2015, at First Presbyterian Church, 8001 Mesa Drive, Austin, Texas.
