

Jerry was born in Port Arthur, Texas on November 27, 1923, to Herbert Charles Jungmichel and Villa Beatrice Neve Jungmichel. Jerry graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School of Port Arthur, Texas in 1941. She attended Business College.
Jerry has enjoyed various careers. She worked through three administrations of the Texas State Treasury serving under the Honorable Jesse James, the Honorable Warren G. Harding and the Honorable Ann Richards. Following her retirement, Jerry began a successful career in Real Estate. Jerry Jungmichel was a lifetime resident of Austin, Texas. She was a member of Central Christian Church and very active in her church. She served on various boards in the church and was a longtime choir member. She served as a Deaconess, Elder, Stewardship Chairman, a member of CWF and various other committees, drives, and leadership roles. She was dearly loved and revered in the Disciples community.
Jerry was married to Curtis Smith and that marriage produced one son, David K. Smith, who was the light of her life. Jerry was a woman of many passions. She and her former husband Curtis Smith hold the distinction of establishing the first Bridge Studio in Austin, Texas. Jerry traveled many places playing Bridge and meeting fascinating people in the Bridge world where she enjoyed an excellent reputation. She excelled at the game and was highly sought after as a partner. Jerry had a passion for loving and collecting butterflies. Jerry loved people and socializing so her entry into real estate was a perfect fit for her personality and energy.
Jerry is survived by her only son, David K. Smith of Austin; grandson, Derek Smith of Austin and granddaughter, Christine Smith of Austin along with nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brothers, Buddy and Charlie Jungmichel.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm; Cook-Walden Funeral Home at 6100 N. Lamar. Graveside service will be Wednesday, November 2, 2016, 10:00 am; Austin Memorial Cemetery on Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas with her minister, Rev. Eric Gates, of Central Christian Church officiating.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Central Christian Church, Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 10:00 am with a reception to follow.
