Gerard “Jerry” Magellan Broussard, Sr. deeply loved the Lord, his children, grandchildren, parents, siblings, and family and we cherished him. Gerard was the sixth of thirteen children born to the union of the late Perkins Warren Broussard, Jr. and Miriam Mary Carmouche Broussard whom he showered with love throughout their lives. “Above all, love each other deeply…” -1 Peter 4:8
A New Orleans native, Jerry grew up in a loving, Christian home and later provided the same for his family. He attended Xavier Preparatory School and John F. Kennedy High School. Professionally, he was a phenomenally successful and outstanding salesman and manager of automobile sales for 37 years where he achieved top salesman too numerous to count throughout his career. Loved by many, Jerry was a member of the Titans of Greater New Orleans.
Jerry had a heart of gold, particularly for the less fortunate, hungry, and homeless. Oftentimes, he fed hungry people whom he encountered just walking down the street. He would purchase bread, meats, cheese (which he loved), condiments, chips, and drinks and create an assembly line of his children to prepare sandwich lunches that they distributed to the homeless after church on Sundays. From these and numerous examples, he taught his children to love and care for others. “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” –Matthew 25:40
After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Jerry relocated to Atlanta, Georgia and later Austin, TX. He loved visiting his family in North Carolina and Virginia. He especially adored his grandchildren: Gerard Broussard, III; Victoria Morris; Gerrett Broussard; David Morris, III; Geremy and Gabrielle Broussard; and Kenzi Simone Scott. They loved being with their Grandpa Jerry.
Jerry loved his hometown of New Orleans. One of his great joys was riding in the Orpheus parade on Lundi Gras with his daughter, LaShana. Forever in his heart, he proudly wore his New Orleans Saints paraphernalia after relocating to Texas.
While asleep in the early afternoon on Sunday, May 24th, Jerry succumbed to multiple health issues. Left to cherish his memory from his first union to Aleta Sykes Broussard is LaShana Broussard-Morris (David II) of Durham, NC and Gerard M. Broussard, Jr. (LaKesha) of Beijing, China and Midlothian, VA; from his second union to Joycelyn Raphael Broussard, Kristen Broussard Scott (Thomas) of Powder Springs, GA and his bonus son, Martin Raphael of Los Angeles, CA; Sisters and Brothers: Carol Ann Broussard, Iris Williams (Ethan), Gail Williams (George), Madonna Collard, Margaret Broussard, Valiant Broussard (Rocio), India Conde (Gary), Michael Broussard (Louisa), Michelle McDuffy, and Anthony Broussard (Denisse); Godchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister, Perkins Broussard, III (Brenda) and Magdalene Theresa Villavasso (Alan).
Gerard Broussard will be sadly missed by his family and friends. However, we are comforted in knowing that he is with God and we will see him again. “…to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” -2 Corinthians 5:8
