Dr. Sjoberg welcomed me to UT as a rookie sociologist needing a job. He was kind, considerate, and awakened me to the realities of professional academe.  His habit of working 9pm to 7am was out-of-the-ordinary, to say the least, but I saw his dedication to his profession and admired it. What a great man who largely went unnoticed during his lifetime.

I remember Dr. Sjoberg primarily for saying that he never gave an Undergraduate an "A." "'If you want to maintain your 4.0, don't take my class.'"

I loved and respected Dr. Sjoberg..his passion for learning..his three careers in sociology..his saying "It just boggles the mind"..his never owning a car or phone.his messy office organized to his knowledge of every thing...and one of my highest moments when he started a lecture based on something Beerline said last week...what a rare gem of a man and sociologist..I think of daily. You lived a great life..inspired hundreds..like me. Thank you.


Dr. Sjoberg was one of my favorite teachers when I was a UT undergrad majoring in Sociology.   At the time, I did not realize what a fine scholar he was.  I simply thought him a great teacher.
