

Giles Jones Andrews, M.D. 1932-2008 Giles Jones Andrews passed away peacefully on June 10th, 2008. Giles was born in Galveston, TX on January 24, 1932 to Dr. and Mrs. Thomas and Helen Andrews. He was a graduate of Austin High School and a member of the National Honor Society. In 1956 he graduated from Baylor College of Medicine and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He graduated in top of his class and was a member of Phi Chi Fraternity. In honor of his father on Father's Day it is important to also note that Dr. Thomas Andrews graduated in 1929 as a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from the University of Texas. Giles served his country in the U.S. Army as Captain. After completing his military service he started his radiology residency at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX. Giles began his medical career at the then newly opened St Elizabeth's Hospital in Beaumont, TX. Giles was Chairman of the Radiology Department at St Elizabeth's Hospital until his retirement after practicing medicine for 34 years. Humility, integrity, loyalty, leadership and compassion are all qualities Giles possessed. Giles was a lifetime member of the Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, American College of Radiology and Texas Radiological Society. Giles is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Margie Olle Andrews, his son Giles Andrews, Jr. (Chip) and daughter-in-law Antoinette Andrews; his son Thomas Andrews and daughter-in-law Angie Andrews; his grandsons, Stephen Andrews, his wife Hannah Andrews and Giles Andrews, III; his great-grand children Nathan and Jacob Andrews. Giles was an avid golfer and he twice attended The Masters in Augusta, GA. He also had the pleasure of playing golf at St Andrews and Turnberry in Scotland. While in Beaumont, he took flying lessons and earned his pilot's license. Giles and Margie traveled all over the world and his most memorable trip was to Egypt and East Africa. Of all the adventures they shared, a helicopter/hiking trip into the Bugaboo Mountains of British Columbia, Canada was the most thrilling. Giles also served on the Austin Symphony Board for seven years. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church, 7127 Bee Caves Road, Austin TX, 78746. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to "The Gathering" Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church or The Austin Symphony, 1101 Red River, Austin, TX 78701.
