Gladice attended school in Elgin, Texas and was senior class president when she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1963. She later studied nursing at Austin Community College.
She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age, and united with the Church of God in Christ in Elgin, Texas, where she was active with the music department. She joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in 2014, where she served as a greeter.
Gladice began her professional career at St. David’s Medical Center, and then Fresenius Medical Care (formerly Austin Diagnostic Center and National Nephrology Associates), where she worked for over 35 years before retiring.
She was an avid gardener, and her house was full of plants, inside and out. She loved sewing and was a member of a sewing club, where she made beautiful quilts. She also participated in the Silver Sneakers program at the YMCA.
Gladice exemplified the qualities of a virtuous woman. She was the patriarch of the family and had a kind nurturing heart and loving spirit. She was unselfishly dedicated to serving and caring for others.
On January 1, 1983, she married CJ Houston, who preceded her in death. On March 19, 2020, she married Ricky Joseph.
Gladice was also preceded in death by her parents, Sirnester and Ethel Mae King; brothers, Roger King, John King, and Curtis King; sisters, Hattie Jarmon, Doris Bolden, and Jayne Fowler; and son, Jerry Houston.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Ricky Joseph; daughter, Glenda King; sons, Anthony McBride, Clifford Houston (Andrea), Christopher Houston (Dawn), Bryan Houston and Carlos Houston; brother, Rev. Tyree King; sister, Erma Taylor; grandchildren, Antoine, Marcus, Cheryle Ann, Makajasia, Dalvin, Jr., Rachel, CJ, and Jasmine; 11 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
