Gladys Abbott Campbell, loving wife, dedicated mother and magical grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 6th 2005, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Campbell was born on June 16th, 1922, in Bethlehem, New Hampshire, the second child and only daughter of Florence Ivey Abbott and Karl P. Abbott. She is survived by her loving, devoted husband of 50 years, Sam G. Campbell, Jr., her son Sam G. Campbell III, her daughter-in-law Leslie Langee, her grandchildren Robert and Christopher Campbell, her nephews Dan and Dave Abbott, and her dear friend Jessie Mae Taylor, as well as many beloved friends. Mrs. Campbell lived a unique and fantastic life. Her fathers position, as an operator of luxury resort hotels along the Eastern seaboard, allowed her to spend the majority of her childhood living in those hotels, which were predominately in New Hampshire, Boston, New York, the Carolinas and Florida. As a young woman, she attended Wellesley College and Rollins College, and worked as a professional model in New York. As an adult, she settled in Melbourne, and later Indialantic, Florida. There, she met and married Mr. Campbell. While there, she worked on the local newspaper, hosted a radio program on current events, volunteered with the Red Cross, studied painting and helped her husband start Central Brevard Sporting Goods. Together, they had the pride and joy of their lives, a son, Samuel G. Campbell III. Mrs. Campbell delighted in the beauty that surrounded her, and had many varied interests. She adored reading, and read a variety of subjects, including books on physics, painting and fiction. She also enjoyed writing and painting. She enjoyed listening to a wide range of music from Stevie Wonder to Horowitz to Bob Marley. She had a unique spark, a gift for life and could see into the hearts of people. She was caring and loving, devoted to her family and delighted in their happiness. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother and grandmother. She is deeply loved and terribly missed. Her family wishes to thank Dr. Mary Maxwell, for both her skill as a physician, and her compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Cross. A service for Mrs. Campbell will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Arrangements by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N.
