

Gladys Mayer Weyand, age 94, passed away July 10, 2010. She was born at home in Winedale, Texas on September 26, 1915 to Rudolph (R.H.) and Selma (Seibert) Mayer. She grew up in the Winedale community and attended the Winedale School. She worked on the farm until she started taking care of a paralyzed elderly lady for over 4 years.
Gladys married Louis (L.O.) Weyand in Carmine, Texas on November 17, 1937. They were blessed with their son Louis in 1947. She and L.O. purchased several lots on Lake Travis in the 1950’s where they built their dream home in 1967. They cherished each other and loved fishing, boating, gardening and playing cards and dominoes with their many friends and family. After her beloved husband passed away in 1979, she continued working at the MHMR Print Shop until she retired in 1987 with 25 years of service.
She enjoyed her family, friends, cats, watching the Astros and gardening. Gladys had over two hundred potted flowers along with her vegetable and flower gardens. She was still gardening at age 92. Gladys was also very active in her church and the HBVFD auxiliary where she was known as the ticket lady.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers, one sister, three brother-in-laws and three sister-in-laws. Gladys is survived by her son Louis and wife Cathy; granddaughter Tiffany Baranauskas; grandson Mike Harris and wife Donna; and two great granddaughters Lindsey Baranauskas and Alyssa Harris; and one sister Nelda Muesse all of Austin, Texas.
Gladys was blessed with good health, an active life, family and many friends who dearly loved her. As long as she could be active she enjoyed life. She always said she loved to work and she did.
A visitation will be held at Cook-Walden/Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, 9700 Anderson Mill Road in Austin on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral sevice will be held at Cook-Walden/Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Clifford Locke officiating. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Faith Lutheran Church, 6600 Woodrow Avenue, Austin, TX 78757.
