Glen Nelson Sanders Sr. passed away unexpectedly on January 6, 2024 at the age of 74. He was born May 24, 1949 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Sarah Elizabeth (Rogers) and John Nelson Sanders. Glen graduated from McCallum High School, class of 1967, in Austin, Texas where he lived most of his life. He continued his education at LSU for two years, remembering it as “the place I learned all my bad habits” before graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.B.A. During his time at LSU and UT, he was an active member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Most of his career was spent as a Commercial Real Estate Appraiser, though he also had his Broker’s license to help friends and families buy and sell homes.
A loving father, Glen had two children – Glen Jr. and Laura. He cherished his family and moved to Midlothian, Texas two years ago, to be near his grandchildren. An active father, he spent many years coaching his son’s little league teams. When not on the baseball field, he took his kids to float the river, play video games at the arcade or throw strikes at the bowling alley.
An inclusive Texas sports fan, he was always ready to cheer on the Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Astros. Glen spent many years playing co-ed softball with his fellow appraisers where he made lots of great memories and many lifelong friends. Glen was fun loving, personable, and a great friend to all. His kind spirit and laid back demeaner made him easy to get along with. Those who love him will humorously remember him as playfully ornery, always smiling, and young at heart.
Glen enjoyed spending time outdoors whether it was playing golf, hunting and fishing at the family ranch in Manor, or birdwatching on his back patio with numerous birdfeeders and birdhouses. He also enjoyed many great weekends on the lake and the many trips he took to the Yucatan Peninsula.
He is preceded in death by his parents John Nelson Sanders and Sarah Rogers Sanders.
Glen is survived by his children Glen Nelson Sanders Jr., Laura Sanders Franklin and husband Curt; grandchildren Reagan Franklin, Cole Franklin, Grace Franklin; siblings Sandra Pruett and husband Harry, Wayne Sanders and wife Debbie; three nieces; two nephews; five grandnieces; four grandnephews; and his two dogs that he dearly loved, “Luke” and “Leia”.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Austin on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 1:30 pm, at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home on Parkcrest Drive. Reception to follow immediately afterwards.
