Gloria Spong Rickard went home on July 4, 2021 to be with the Lord. She was born on October 3, 1925 in Taylor, Texas to William and Ella Spong. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
The three things that she loved most in life were her faith, family, and friends. Several churches were the benefactor of her service from leading the Luther League, Sunday school superintendent, to teaching Sunday school and many more. She loved to have her family over for dinner (she was a fantastic cook and baker), loved to play games (dominoes – 42 was her game), or just to visit. Friends were always welcomed and you probably were offered something to drink and eat. But if a Longhorn or Rangers game were on, you had to watch with her. She loved her Longhorns and Rangers baseball. While she had many friends, it was her family who benefitted the most because she was a stay at home mom. What a great gift she was to her family and everyone else who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Robert (Tex) Rickard. She is survived by four children: Judy Stevens and her husband Mike (deceased); Rick Rickard and his wife Sue; Pam Shriber and her husband Tom; and Rob Rickard and his wife Polly; 10 grandchildren; plus 4 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church located at 3525 Bee Caves Road, Austin, Texas 78746.
