Lt. Col. Gregory Joseph Aaron USAF (Ret.)

Gregory Joseph Aaron passed on August 6th, 2026 in Bertram, Texas. He was doing what he loved, flying. He was a devoted husband and loving father who lived an extraordinary life of kindness, generosity and faith. He was our Hero.

Greg was born in 1949 in Leavenworth, Kansas, the second of four boys to Lee and Katharine Aaron. He attended Bishop Lynch High School, and received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. He went on to later earn two Masters Degrees.

Greg was humble for his many accomplishments. His lifelong dream of flying was realized when he joined the Air Force in 1971. He was selected for pilot training and soon became an Instructor in the T-38. His passion for teaching and his kindness quickly made him a favorite among the students. Greg went on to his dream assignment, flying the KC-135 tanker. He flew missions supporting Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Special Operations and a joint mission with the Space Shuttle. After twenty years of dedicated service Greg retired from the military.

He began the second phase of his aviation career as a commercial pilot for UPS airlines flying International out of Miami in the South American Domicile. He was an avid traveler and loved visiting Central and South America, as well as Europe.

At sixty-five, Greg retired from UPS and moved to Leander, TX. He immersed himself in flying Sailplanes at Fault Line Fliers where he became an instructor and then Club President. Greg owned a PW5 Sailplane that he loved to fly. His passion for aviation and desire to give back led him to join the Civil Air Patrol where served as their check pilot.

Greg was as passionate about his family as he was about flying.

His favorite thing to say was, “Life is an adventure.” He included his family in these adventures, swimming with dolphins, hiking the Adirondacks, scuba diving and traveling throughout Europe and South America.

He always showed up for everyone. You could depend on him.

His deep devotion to the Lord was evident to all those around him through his kindness, loyalty and constant encouragement.

Greg was preceded in eternal rest by his youngest brother Jeff and his mother Katharine. His memory will always live on with his wife Billi, children Jason, Kristin and Joshua, and grandson, Frasier. He is survived by his father and brothers Rick and Gary.

He will forever be in our hearts.

Visitation will be held at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, TX 78750, on August 23, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
