Gregory Paul Smith

Gregory Paul Smith was born April 11,1963, the 5th of 11 kids to the union of Percy Smith Sr. and the late Vergia Mary Yokum in Rayne La. He was baptized at Starlight Baptist Church in Rayne La at an early age. He gained the nickname "Tubby" from his Father.

He graduated Rayne High School in 1981 and attended University of Louisiana at Lafayette and enlisted in United States Army in 1983, where he proudly served his Country until being honorably discharged. He then settled in Houston Tx and later relocated to Austin Tx until his transition on May 12th 2025.

Growing up Gregory enjoyed playing baseball and spending time with family and friends. He also had a passion for dancing and a tenacity for stylish dressing. He enjoyed meeting new people and conversing about World events. Gregory's warm and charming personality will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Gregory leaves to cherish his memories, his Father, Percy James Smith, Sr. Two children, Brittany Smith and Brent Gregory Smith, 2 grandkids -Kaleah Smith and

Christopher Smith.Four brothers, Clifton Smith, Percy Smith, Jr., Marshall Smith, Cleveland Smith and Winnder Yokum. Five sisters, Eva Nell Smith, Sharlet Charles(Phillip), Christel McCrory(Brian), Mona Yokum and Donna Yokum. Also a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Gregory was preceded in death by his beloved Mother, Vergia Mary Yokum, Paternal Grandparents Ivory and Ruby Smith, Maternal grandparents, Fannie Beverly, and Cleveland Yokum and Nephew, Leon Smith.

The family would like to express sincerest gratitude to Hospice of Austin, Emily, Cassandra and the staff of Brodie's Ranch for taking care of our loved one during his time of need. Also, thank you to all those who called, texted or said a special Prayer. Your words of comfort are greatly appreciated during this difficult time.

A celebration of life & memorial service for Gregory will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 11:00 AM at American Legion Auxiliary, 213 American Legion Dr, Rayne, LA 70578.
