Guillermo ‘Bill’ Arteaga, 74, was called to our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. He was born on January 11, 1946 to Crisoforo Arteaga San Martin and Sofia Rodriguez Montes and was raised in the Rio Grande Valley by Lazaro Montes, Sr.
He met his beautiful bride and wife of 54 years, Maria Elida Martinez in San Marcos, and they were later married in 1966.
Bill retired after working for the State of Texas as a Trainer for 30 years and another 15 years from the Austin Independent School District where he was a School Bus Driver. He also served on the Executive Board of Education Austin where he advocated for the rights and fair treatment for teachers and employees.
Bill was a devoted father and husband, he was highly involved in his children’s education and athletics activities. He was dedicated to clearing the path for their success by being actively involved in the schools and the educational system to promote the best education for all children, especially for minorities and those from economically challenged families. Bill also loved dancing with his wife, watching the Dallas Cowboys and the UT Longhorns football games with his sons, spending time with his grandchildren and, most importantly, being around his family as much as possible.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 siblings.
Bill is survived by his wife, Maria; daughters, Audrey Kato and Elizabeth Mendez; sons, Michael Arteaga and Guillermo Arteaga Jr.; 17 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; 14 siblings and half-siblings and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress with a Memorial Service to begin at 5:00 pm.
Currently, due to the substantial public risk, city and state government mandates that social gatherings of limited amounts may occur with strict social distancing protocol. Current COVID protocols for Travis County, guests must wear protective masks at all times while inside the funeral home facility and practice the recommended six foot social distancing. Weed-Corley-Fish South will limit our capacity to 70 guests at a service while enforcing all distancing and hygiene standards. We appreciate your understanding.
