
Harland L. Blanchard, 95, of Austin, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, June 3, 2007. Mr. Blanchard moved to Austin from Silver Springs Shores, Florida in December 1987. He was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church. Mr. Blanchard was born in Spring Creek, Pennsylvania on August 26, 1911 and married Una Armstrong on July 3, 1932. They lived in Conneaut, Ohio for 22 years before moving to Florida and ultimately to Austin. Mr. Blanchard was a self educated accountant and worked at that profession for many years, however, he also owned numerous retail businesses during his long life. His hobby interests were mainly in the area of photography and woodworking. The latter being his most recent and longest lasting pursuit. In his teen years he and a friend built and flew his own airplane, which was ultimately sold just prior to WW II.. Mr. Blanchard was preceded in death by a step-sister and three brothers, as well as his wife, Una who passed away in 1993 after 61 years of marriage. Survivors include his daughter, Joyce Shierlow and husband Charles, of Manchaca; son, Roger Blanchard and wife Irene of Bay Village, Ohio; daughter, Linda Trubica and husband Tom of Fort Meyers, Florida. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. A private service will be held for the family on Wednesday with final interment to take place in Conneaut, Ohio at a later date.
