Harley Moran Hitchcock Jr.

Harley Moran Hitchcock, Jr. (MSGT USAF retired), was born on January 8, 1937, at Buchanan Dam, Texas to Harley “Dubb” Hitchcock and Coleta Cummings Hitchcock. He passed on December 19, 2021, at his home.

Harley spent his early years living on South 1st Street in Austin. As a young child, he traveled the United States with his single, working father. He enlisted into the US Air Force when he was 17 years old. He met the love of his life, Lynda Gayle Brothers, while stationed in El Paso, TX. They married in 1957. Throughout his 20 years and many places they lived, they had three children together. Harley retired to his home in Austin in 1974.

Harley couldn’t relax in retirement from the Air Force. He started a new career with the US Postal Service. His service and dedication to US Postal Service spanned another twenty years. Taking his knowledge from the Postal Service, Harley embarked upon one final job with the Texas Press Association, where he spent another ten years traveling and working with many publishers throughout Texas, teaching them how to save money on their mailed publications.

In addition to his many jobs, Harley was an avid organic gardener. He also loved hunting dove and pheasant and fishing with his two sons and favorite Airedale, Missy.

Harley was preceded in death by his son, Kirk Hitchcock and by his father, Harley Hitchcock, Sr. Survivors include his wife, Lynda Gayle Hitchcock, sister, Sandra Dalkilic (Mike), son Weldon Hitchcock (Brenda), and daughter, Sandi Ballard (Robert). He also leaves three granddaughters, Michelle Hitchcock (Adam Cantu), Cobain Hitchcock and JoDee Ballard.

Family will receive visitors on Monday, December 27th at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752 from 5-7 p.m.

Graveside services to be held on Tuesday, December 28th at Decker United Methodist Church Cemetery at 8304 Decker Lane, Austin, TX 78724 at 10:30 a.m.
