

On December 4, 2014 Harold Ray White, Col.(ret.) U.S.A.F. completed his missions here on earth due to Alzheimer’s. He was born in Roanoke, VA. on September 17, 1930, to Laura Bayes White Bowles and Clarence M. White. He graduated from Bridgewater College VA. with a B.S. in Business, and Aviation Cadets in 1953. He then married Elaine Myers of VA. Beach VA. (parents S .Blair Myers and Pauline Hooker Myers originally of Harrisonburg and Roanoke) Thus began a lifetime of adventure.
Hal served in Korea as a B-26 pilot then as instructor in OK, where his son Steven was born, then Spence Air Base GA , where his daughter Teri was born. He was training pilots at Randolph Base, TX in 1962 when he received orders for Tachikawa, Japan where he was the Aide to the Com. General, before being reassigned to Yokota, Japan .Hal returned to Randolph before being sent to Udorn, Thailand, where he flew 106 missions in the F-4 over Viet Nam.
Peaceful Hahn, Germany was the next assignment for 3 1/2 yrs. where his duties were the Ops Officer of the 496th Squadron, and the C.O. of the 10th Squadron. Hal next attended the senior Army War College at Carlisle, PA while completing his M.A.in Public Administration. Ft. Leavenworth , KS was next, as the Senior A.F. Advisor ,while also serving on the Armed Forces Insuring Association Board. After a final tour at the Pentagon, he retired to develop land in Bedford Co., VA. where he has many relatives.
After finding the dream place to build his home, he became a Realtor in the Austin, TX area while helping plan and build his retirement home at Lake Travis. He has enjoyed his Grandchildren, fishing and sailing on Lake Travis, dabbled in painting scenes of his travels and enhancing his home with stained glass art.
Hal was a lifetime member of the Military Order of Daedalians, past President of his Homeowners Association and the Austin Community Eagles Association (ACES). Among his many Awards and Decorations were the Legion of Merit, DFC, Bronze Star w2OLC, Air Medal w/60LC, RVN Galentry Cross, and Meritorious Service Medal.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Elaine, son Steve, wife Suji, daughter Teri, husband Lee, and three Grandsons, Chris, Ryan, Mitchell. Chris wife Rita and Great Granddaughter, Isabelle. Brother Dr. David White, wife Ruth and their 3 sons and wives, of VA.
Interment will be at the Ft .Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors, in San Antonio TX. The family wishes to thank the loving care of Arden Courts Memory Care and Gentiva Hospice.
