Harry Herman Burghardt was born just outside Detroit in October 1927 to Jacob Charles Burghardt and Flora Moczemgembia and passed from this life on February 3, 2023 for “to be absent in this life is to be present with the Lord!” He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Alice Legg Burghardt, his twin brother Harold Burghardt, his brother Charles Burghardt, sister JoAnna Kapsian, and an innumerable cloud of witnesses of family and friends.
A long time resident of Austin, he was active in the Typographical Union serving in many leadership positions including president and international convention delegate and the AFL-CIO where he worked tirelessly to benefit many. He retired in 1999 from the University of Texas Printing Division.
He is survived by daughter Peggy of Austin; daughter Glenda Price of Austin and her husband Lane; grandson Andy along with his wife Fang and great grandson Michael; a beloved niece MaryAlice Parker Luna; adopted sons Geary Simons, Marshall Peterson, Rafael Luna and wife Linda, and adopted daughter Bridgette Berkes. Also beloved are his “furry friends:” Jack, Etta, Luke, and Henry Santos.
Interment will at Cook Walden Graveside at the Pflugerville location.
