
Harry attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his BA and Master's degrees. He began his work in Education at Marshall Jr. High School in Houston, Texas and returned to Austin for the opening of O. Henry Jr. High in 1953. He taught math at O. Henry until he transferred to Lanier Jr. /Sr. High School in 1963 as Administrative Assistant. He became Principal at the Jr. High in 1965 and then Principal at Burnet Jr. High when the upper grades moved to the new Lanier High School. With the opening of Dobie Middle School, Harry was assigned there as Assistant Principal, then to Porter Middle School where he remained until his retirement in 1984. After retirement, he taught half time at Lanier High School, LBJ High School, Travis High School and also substituted in different schools.
Harry served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Harry was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder there.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Lanell (Seeliger) Gardner and daughter, Jill Jones Gardner Yount.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Elizabeth Gardner; daughter, Kim Monroe Gardner; grandsons, Eric Matthew Gardner and Jian Ramin Lotfi; his other children, Steven Ray Robertson and Anne Kahrs; grandchildren, Geoffry Robertson, Jason Robertson, Brianna McBride, Steven Ray Robertson, Jr., Deborah Pogue and four great-grandchildren.
