

Helen McLaughlin Putman, 92, of Austin, Texas died Monday, March 2, 2015. Born December 16, 1922 in Chicago Illinois, Helen moved to the south Texas town of Mercedes as a young girl with her mom (Agnes), brother (Jack) and sister (Gertrude). As a young woman, Helen lived in San Antonio and then Houston where she married Edward D. Putman in 1961. After getting married, Helen and Ed moved to Austin, which has been home for her ever since.
Helen was an independent woman who enjoyed traveling. She was an advocate of women's rights and active in the Austin League of Woman Voters and the Barton Hills Garden Club. After retiring from the City of Austin, where she worked in medical records at Brackenridge Hospital, Helen became active with Stephen Ministries at St. David's Church.
Helen is survived by her son David, his wife Ashley and grandkids Jack, Helena, and Memo; nieces Frances Galey, Jackie Pantello, and Pat Honeywill; nephews Donald Fraser, Jimmy McLaughlin, and Bobby McLaughlin; and many cousins. Special thanks to Rosario Munoz for her love and care, to Katie Herbert and Becky Robinson for their help, and all the folks with Hospice.
A visitation will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish on Friday March 6, 5:00-7:00 p.m. A service will be held at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church Saturday March 7, 11:00 a.m.
