Helen grew up in El Paso surrounded by a large, loving family. She married Rodger Savage on October 5, 1956, and together they raised three daughters. Rodger's military service took the family to Alaska and finally to Austin, Texas, in 1962 where they resided until their passing. During her career, Helen worked for Southwestern Bell, Calcasieu Lumber, Tracor, Radian Corporation and finally URS, from which she retired.
Helen was a three time cancer survivor and an avid supporter and participant of the Relay for Life each year.
Helen loved and cherished her family and friends above all else. Her first grandchild was born in 1969 after which she became known to all future generations as "Gagaba". There was nothing that Gagaba wouldn't do for her children and grandchildren. She was the backbone of her large family and was truly cherished by each and every member. Her house was always full of the people she loved and was the center of the universe for her family. Her departure has left a hole too large to ever fill.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Lorene McCoy and her husband.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Buie of Austin, TX, Paula Patterson of Humble, TX, Georgia Wood (James) of Austin, TX and her step-son, Michael Savage (Lois) of Carrollton, TX. She is survived by her loving brother, Bill McCoy and her loving sister, Armeeta Oldaker (Jerry) and by her grandchildren, Thomas Buie, Jr. of Cedar Creek, TX, Rodger Buie, Sr. (Barbie) of Austin, TX, Shawn Patterson (Melissa) of Tomball, TX, Travis Pernock of Austin, TX, Shane Savage (Michelle) of Ft. Worth, TX and Crystal Arnold of Ferndale, WA. She is survived by her great-grandchildren, Rodger Buie, Jr. of Austin, TX, Chase Patterson of Tomball, TX, Rachel Buie of Austin, TX and Corey Patterson of Tomball, TX, Brittany Argust (Chris), Courtney Savage, Makenzie Savage, Emma Savage and Gavin Savage and by her great-great-grandchildren, Eden Ming of Taylor, TX, Kymberlynn Buie of Austin, TX and Isabella Argust. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family too numerous to count.
If success in life is being truly missed and remembered long after you're gone, our Gagaba was one extremely successful lady.
