Known by friends and family as “Steve”, he attended Mitchell College, Statesville, NC before joining the Army and served in Japan during the Korean War. Upon discharge, he entered Lenoir Rhyne College, Hickory, NC and graduated from Lenoir Rhyne as Salutatorian of his Class. He was employed with Provident Life & Accident Insurance Company in Chattanooga, TN for a period of several years before joining Southwestern Life Insurance Company as Group Representative in Shreveport, LA in 1957.
