

Henry was born on May 3, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois to Louis and Helen Wojtyla. He grew up in Chicago with his two brothers, Walter and Raymond. He attended Weber High School. He became a cadet at the United States Military Academy West Point, which he left to join the Department of Economics at the University of Chicago. He received his PhD from the University of Chicago and was a professional economist for his whole career.
Henry met his wife, Gene (Eugenia) at the University of Chicago, where she was an undergraduate. They married on March 19, 1955. On March 19, 2026, Henry and Gene celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. As always, he gave her a card, addressed to “Wifer,” to celebrate their long and happy marriage.
Henry was known for his passion for books and films. He had a collection of over ten thousand volumes in his library. Henry was an avid skier and bicyclist and ran the New York City Marathon ten times. He and Gene shared a passion for travel, which he also shared with his children and grandchildren. He was always curious and wanted to see the world.
Henry is survived by his wife Gene, his daughter Karen Wojtyla and son-in-law Jay Ackroyd, his daughter Lauren Wojtyla and son-in-law Samuel Levy, his grandchildren Moriel Levy (Jonathan Jove), and Ezra Levy, his step-grandson Max Keenoy (Alexis Keenoy), his step-great-granddaughters Zoe and Ada Keenoy, and his great-grandson Ethan Jove.
A service of remembrance will be held on April 30, 2026, at 11am Central Time at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, Texas, with a live stream available at https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/c26045725682141.
