

Herbert grew up in San Antonio, Texas, with his sister, three brothers, and their parents Martin P. Ferrero and Lavada Herring Ferrero all of whom have preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Jean (Moos) Ferrero, three sons, Lawrence Eugene (Suzanne), James Martin (Evelyn), Joseph William, and three grandchildren: Lauren Ferrero; Leanna (Colby) Sexton, children Garrett and Claire; Bruce Daniel Ferrero son of Joseph William.
After graduating from Brackenridge High School, Herbert attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, earning a BS degree. After serving in the Army and being honorably discharged, he returned to SWTSTC to earn a Masters degree and teaching certificate. In the following years, he taught middle school in San Antonio ISD; served as Holmes High School vice-principal and principal in the Northside ISD. After a serious health issue, he was assigned to be an elementary principal, and eventually assistant athletic director. In 1976, the family moved to West, Texas, where he served as the West High School principal for five years. After five years, the Ferrero family moved to Round Rock, Texas, and Herbert once again went back to his first passion, teaching at Reagan High School in the Austin ISD. He eventually retired after having taught the necessary years for retirement. He spent many productive years in retirement working on the family home in Round Rock and finding friends with whom he could enjoy his hobby of woodworking and carving.
The funeral mass will be held Wednesday,December 28, in the Chapel at St. William Catholic Church, at 10:00 AM.
