

Homer graduated from Austin High School in 1948. He then entered the United States Navy, serving his country as a distinguished member of our United States heroes from October 1950 to July 1954. He then entered the University of Texas and graduated in 1957. Homer worked for various state agencies and retired from the State Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation in 1989. Homer faithfully served as a Deacon for Northwest Baptist Church and Crestview Baptist Church in Austin, Texas. After retirement, Homer continued work in various ministries, including Gideon’s International and various prison ministries, serving the Lord he loved so faithfully.
Homer is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce Carter DeGlandon, his three daughters, Nancy DeGlandon of Pflugerville, Dawn Grimes and husband, Jon of Pflugerville, and, Denise Taylor and husband, Barry of Hutto. His four grandchildren, Jana and Jamie Grimes of Pflugerville and Blake and Beau Taylor of Hutto, were the light of his life and existence. He is survived by two brothers and three sisters, along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

The family will be receiving friends and guests from 5 o’clock in the afternoon until 8 o’clock in the evening on Monday, the 23rd of April. The funeral services are scheduled at Cook-Walden Funeral Home in the Colonial Chapel, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas at 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 24th of April 2012.
