He was born in Austin, Texas, May 29, 1942, to Homer Garrison, Jr. and Mary Nell Garrison. The Garrison family has deep roots in Texas, having been here since 1823, making Trey a ninth generation Texan.
He was a graduate of Austin High School and The University of Texas where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. It was there that he met Anne, and they later married. Trey and Anne were blessed with two children, Tiffany Garrison Parker and Charles Monroe Garrison. Tiffany and Monroe were a source of great joy and pride to Trey. He always enjoyed their company whether on the lake, in the woods or at special events. Trey’s three grandsons, Richard Parker, Thomas Garrison and Charles Garrison were special to him and these memories were treasured always.
Trey was an avid outdoorsman. He grew up being outdoors with his father and Texas Rangers who taught him the skills to become a lover of hunting. He took great delight in teaching his daughter, his son and his grandsons the joy of hunting and being in the outdoors.
The thrill of being with Thomas and Charles when they shot their first deer was exciting as was experiencing the wonders of Yellowstone through Richard’s eyes for the first time.
He began his business career in banking and served as an officer in several Texas Banks. He later joined the family business, Mary Nell Garrison Realtors which over the years has evolved to be known as Garrison Realtors. Trey was a Realtor for more than fifty years. He was not able to give up his banking interests entirely by serving on three bank boards,
Travis State Bank, Chevy Chase Bank and was an Advisory Director of Frost Bank Austin.
He gave of himself to the community in many areas. He served on the Board of Directors of the United Way Austin, The Better Business Bureau and The Hundred Club of Austin. He was also President of Austin Crimestopers, Director and President of Seton League House and was a member of the first class of Leadership Austin. Trey was a Charter member and a Director of the Elite 25 and a founding Director of The Austin Luxury Network. He was also a Director of the Rotary Club of Austin and a member of The Admirals Club.
Trey proudly served as President of the Capitol Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He was an Eagle Scout and was awarded the Silver Beaver, the highest volunteer award given by the Boy Scouts for his service.
Having a passion for Texas History he served as a Director of the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame, the Homer Garrison Museum, served as a Commissioned Special Ranger, a Director of the Former Texas Rangers Association and the Texas Ranger Heritage Center.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the Real Estate and Facilities Committee for the Church District.
Trey’s first love was his family. He and Anne seldom missed an opportunity to be with their children and grandsons. They were in attendance for sports games, school programs and especially holidays.
He placed and treasured his time with them above all. His passion was real estate. He loved the interaction with people and the relationships that he was able to create. The history and the future of the land itself was fascinating to him.
He was a true Texas gentleman who treated everyone with kindness and honesty. He had a gentle nature that made dealing with people a hallmark of service. His compassion for people and animals was always there to help anyone in need.
Trey was preceded in death by his wife Anne Garrison, and his parents, Homer Garrison, Jr., and Mary Nell Garrison.
He is survived by his daughter Tiffany Garrison Parker and her husband Eugene Richard Parker, Jr., of Temple, Texas and his son Charles Monroe Garrison and his wife Whitney Priddy Garrison, of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Eugene Richard Parker, III of Fort Worth, Texas, Thomas Monroe Garrison of Marfa, Texas, Charles Shaw Garrison of Houston, Texas, Harrison (9) and Palmer (6) of Austin, Texas.
