

Howard Carroll Johnson Howard Carroll Johnson, age 90, died on Saturday, September 25, 2004. He was born in Easterly, Texas on November 12, 1913 to parents Arthur Colon Johnson and Minnie Jane (Cox) Johnson. Carroll grew up in Itasca, Texas in Hill County. He was Salutatorian of the Itasca High School Class of 1932. He served as a member of the Texas Highway Patrol as motorcycle patrolman in far West Texas during the years before World War II. During that war, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre. Following an honorable discharge at the end of the war, he began a long career in the State Comptrollers Department. He later worked as an accountant in the private sector. On May 3, 1947, Carroll married Pauline Adams. They were happily married for over 57 years. They had two sons, Steve Johnson, an educator from San Antonio, and Scotty Johnson, a teacher from Waller. He is also survived by two daughters-in-law Jan and Christiane, grandchildren, Lucas Johnson, Stephanie and Marc Overall, Jefferson and Morgan Johnson, and four great-grandchildren Kendyll, Tucker, Logan, and Emily, one sister Mary Ruth Arthur, and one brother Colon Johnson. Howard Carroll was a loving and devoted husband and father. He never met a stranger and was friendly to absolutely everyone. He loved working outside. He loved playing ball with his kids. He was an avid Yankee, Longhorn, Cowboy, and Astro fan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel.
