Gene & entire Leath family,
     I am so sorry for your loss.  May you find comfort in our Lord.

I became friends with Gene after moving to Austin in 1969. When I would be around their house Buck was always laughing and cutting up with Gene, my best friend Mike and Gene's other friends. Back then and until the day he passed Buck tried to be at every sports event and activity his kids, grandkids and great grandkids were participating in. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are everything to him.

After awhile of being friends with Gene I noticed his sister had sparkling big brown eyes and a beautiful smile. I guess I started practicing hostage negotiating even back then because I managed to start dating Gene's sister without getting Gene mad at me. My beautiful brown eyed girl and I have been together now for nearly 40 years and Gene still probably hasn't figured out how he let that happen. 

I guess Buck wasn't sure about me early on because I was pretty quiet. He accepted me though, primarily because he didn't like LaDonna's other boyfriends. (Gotta start somewhere) Our bond grew throughout the years and I was fortunate to have many moments in the last year to learn a lot about him and his life. Having lost my own parents and two siblings I found it important to learn about lives and experiences before the opportunity is lost. All of our lives are like a good book. Many laughs, tears and experiences that make us interesting. He lived a colorful life and had experiences that most people have only read about in books or have seen in movies. He might not have acknowledged it but he did many great things in his life that helped others enjoy their lives a little better.

Buck's passing has been tough on each of his children but you each have a lot of your Mom and Dad in you. You will get passed this but I know you will always deeply miss him. Each of you have some of the best of Buck and Mary Lois in you and that is why I know you are all good people and good friends.

Mary Lois, Gene, LaDonna "Kay", Bryan & Elisha you are my friends, my life but most importantly, Family. Your Dad was a man and everything that goes with that. I have met many men in my life but few as good as Buck.  We will see him again someday but not yet. Until then, know that you are loved and are watched over by an Angel in Heaven and a very special Angel still here with us.

I can't recall how I met Gene,but Buck Always made me feel like family.He was a fine man.My sympathies for your loss.

Gene was one of the first friends I made after moving to Austin, that 's how I met Mr. Leath. I remember when he would come home from work and tease us kids and pick at Gene. Several times Mr. Leath and Gene would race in front of their house. I seem to remember Mr. Leath winning those races, even though he was wearing his work boots. Uncle Buck,  I will always cherish the fun times we had as kids... you always made everyone laugh.  You will always be in my heart and memories.  Tell Granny & Papa and my Dad "hello"...  I love you!

Uncle  Buck was special to the  Hoover  kids. All the jokes and wild things he did with  their  Dad. These memories will not be forfotten  He treated all his nieces and nephews with kindness and love.He's been in my life since I was in Junior High & John's since we married. This is someone who will dearly be missed.

Buck, our kindest, friendliest, most informative neighbor, he will be dearly missed. His example taught us to reach out and be friendly and accepting of others. He always had a kind word to say to anyone walking by and somehow, always knew the latest scoop as well. Being a dedicated husband, father & grandfather was the essence of Buck. He will always have a special place in our hearts. Our prayers go out to Mary and their precious family.  May you find comfort in the Lord,  The Kronke Family

Buck and his  parents lived next door to my family for years. The night before he left for the Army, he spent the evening with my family.  My mother read a story from a very old book about Jacob Wegheisenrangenfeldts trying to "sait an old plue hen schicken" in broken English.  Buck was doubled over with laughter and later accused my mother of giving him a stomach ache. 

After I reconnected with him after many years, the first thing out of his mouth was, "Send me your Grandma Roach's ice cream recipe.  It's still the best ice cream I ever ate."  I did send the recipe to him, but I have never heard whether or not he used it.

I haven't seen any of the Leath family in a really long time but I have very fond memories of all of you. You may never get used to the idea of living without your Dad but I hope you can find comfort in having had him for so many years. You all have my deepest sympathy for your loss.
