

W. Howard Saling, formerly of Corpus Christi, passed away peacefully in Austin on July 7, 2006 after a brief illness. He was born January 10, 1923 in Oakland, CA to Albert E. and Bernice Blank Saling and grew up in the San Francisco Bay area. After high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces and served during World War II near San Marcos. During this time, he met and married his wife, Margie Frances Wehmeyer. Returning to the Bay area with his new bride, Howard completed Caterpillar Management Training and began his career in manufacturing management. They soon returned to Texas and settled in Corpus Christi. Howard retired from Industrial Fabricators in 2002. Howard had many talents and hobbies. He was an excellent craftsman and loved to travel, hunt, fish, and carve wood. Howard was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Margie. He is survived by his son, David Saling and wife Eileen, granddaughters Michelle and Stephanie Saling, all of Austin, and brother, Ted Saling and wife Lou, of California. The family wishes to thank the staff of Westminster Manor, especially Di, Elisha, Barnabey, Joe and Mary, and Hospice Austin for their loving care. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 11 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Weed Corley-Fish Funeral Home, Austin, TX. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. William Brooks on Wednesday, July 12 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Theresas Church, 4311 Small Drive, Austin, TX. Private interment will occur at a later date.
