

After struggling with Parkinson's disease and Lewy-Body Dementia, Howard Walker of Onion Creek, Austin, TX and formerly Luling, TX was received into God's loving arms on August 12, 2014, at the age of 87 with his family at his side. Howard was born on December 19, 1926 in Weir, TX to Sidney and Ida Scott Walker.
Howard was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Jacqueline. Howard's parents, only sister, Mildred Braun and cherished granddaughter, Stephanie Williams also preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Beverly and Jerry Williams of Seguin, TX, Nancee and Preston Dobbs of Onion Creek of Austin, TX, Bob and Brigette Walker of Elgin, TX.
Pops is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Kristen Dobbs, Scott Williams, Marc Dobbs, Nichole Schaefer, Robert Walker and Jennifer Nieri. Pops was blessed with five great-grandchildren, Zachery Dobbs, PVT 1st Class Eryn-Elizabeth Ebbert, Meghan-Michelle Ebbert, Stephanie Schaefer and Winnie Walker. His love for his family was deep and powerful, and he was devoted to them.
Howard was a self-made man who worked every day of his life. He learned his work ethic at seventeen as a boy living on a farm, and he joined the US Navy and proudly served in WWII. After the war Howard and Jacque settled in Pasadena, TX where Howard owned grocery stores. In 1969 Howard changed careers, and he and Jacque began the successful Golden Fried Chicken chain of restaurants in Texas and Oklahoma. After he sold Golden Fried Chicken, he and Jacque traveled the world for ten years. In retirement, he opened Walker's Depot and The Rusty Rooster, and returned to ranching in Luling, TX.
Howard accepted Christ as his savior as a young man, while living in San Marcos, TX. He and Jacque were members of several Baptist churches during their lifetime and were most proud that their children all followed in Believer's Baptism. They joined in the fellowship of First Lockhart Baptist Church in 1981.
A private family graveside service was held on August 14, 2014 with the Rev. Gary Rodgers officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons, Scott Williams, Marc Dobbs, Craig Schaefer, Robert Walker, Caleb Nieri and Zach Dobbs. Honorary Pallbearers were great-granddaughters, Eryn Ebbert, Meghan Ebbert and Stephanie Schaefer.
