Ida Pearl Pointer Bryson Haggerty

Pearl was born to John A. Logan Pointer and Amanda Jane Hayes Pointer on December 25, 1917 near Newsome, Texas (in deep east Texas). She passed away on July 4, 2014 at the age of 96. Pearl's family left east Texas in 1922 or 1923 and moved to Collin County, Texas. When she was 12 years old the family moved to Whitewright, Texas (Grayson, County). There she met the love of her life, William Raymond Bryson.

Pearl and Raymond were married on April 3, 1937 when Pearl was 19 years old. Two children were born to this marriage - Dorothy Jean Bryson Jackson and Tommy Ralph Bryson. Raymond passed away on July 5, 1984. When they were first married, they lived in Whitewright. Then they moved to Austin and Pearl has lived in Austin for 75 years.

Pearl loved to cook, garden and have beautiful flowers in her yard. She also worked outside the home at the Baptist Book Store, Whites Stores, Gage Furniture Company and the Texas State Hospital personnel department. She retired from the State when she was 65 in 1983. After Raymond died, she worked at the Texas Food Service for 4 years. She probably would have worked longer but the business closed up.

Pearl married Donald Haggerty on Sept 17, 1994 and they had almost 14 years together. Don was a wonderful helpmate working side by side with Pearl in keeping the yard and doing home repairs. They both loved flowers and being part of the Ridgetop Baptist family.

Pearl had one brother - Henry Lee Pointer and three sisters - Ora Mae Pointer Bridges, Jessie Evelyn Pointer Bush and Vassie Emma Pointer (who died at the age of 8 days). All brothers and sisters are deceased.

Pearl is survived by her two children, son Tommy and Annabelle "Susie" Bryson and daughter Dorothy Jean Bryson Jackson and Dr. William J. Jackson; she also has six grandchildren, Reece and Renea Jackson, Raymond and Aurora Jackson, Melanie and Jeremy French, Marilyn and Eric Bass, Becky Bryson and Brenda Bryson, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and family on Monday, July 7, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Ridgetop Baptist Church, 708 E. 51st Street, with Rev. Mark Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ridgetop Baptist Church, or the charity of your choice.
