Irene F. Mason

Irene Faye Felfe was born February 19, 1928 in Thorndale, Texas. She died December 30, 2011 in Austin, Texas.

Irene was valedictorian of her high school class. She married William H. Mason of the United States Air Force in 1949. They began a life together devoted to the military. Her husband became Missing in Action in 1968 during the Vietnam War. She waited for him for 41 years until his body was returned.

She is survived by two children: William H. Mason, Jr. of Salt Lake City, Utah and Helen Alexander of Sacramento, California; four grandchildren: Robert, Mary, James and Margaret; four siblings: Pete, Dee, Shirley and Carol; and numerous other beloved family and friends. Special thanks to niece Cynthia Langham for her loving care during Irene’s final weeks.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, Monday, January 2, 2012 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
