After raising her two children, she began working in retail sales in Round Rock, TX, where she enjoyed getting to know so many of the local residents. She always greeted them with a big smile and her customers looked forward to visiting with her. She later began selling collectible ornaments. Her outgoing personality and expertise in keepsake Christmas ornaments, led to a very loyal following of clients.
She retired in 2000 to spend more time with her husband and later enjoyed traveling, going on cruises and visiting casinos with family and friends. She had no shortage of travel companions because it was such a joy to spend time with her. Iris loved and cherished her family above all else. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
She is survived by a sister, Ruth Joyner; her son Eric Hurt, Sr. and wife Cindy; her daughter Connie Naylor and husband Greg; grandchildren Eric Hurt, Jr. and wife Natalia, Joshua Hurt, and Scott Naylor and wife Heidi; great-grandson Peyton Hurt; as well as many adored nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Harry and Essie Rowell; her beloved husband Elbert Hurt; sister Marjorie Hyde; brothers Harry Rowell, Mike Rowell, Robin Rowell and Keith Rowell.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 23, 2026, at 11:00 am at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, TX 78750. Food and fellowship will follow the service.
