Iva Joy Shaver passed from this life on June 17, 2014. Born in Bowie County, Texas on March 21, 1928, to Luke and Leila Shafer. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years Bob Shaver; her parents, her brothers James, Travis, Choice and Donald; and her sisters Minnie, Enois, Rosa, Christel, and Pearle. She is survived by her sons Philip and wife Kathleen, Timothy, Bradley and wife Sherrie and grandchildren Melanie and Matthew.
Iva was devoted to family and her faith. Following the passing of her parents, Bob and Iva relocated to Austin, Texas for its educational opportunities for their children. In Austin, Bob and Iva enjoyed a long-term relationship with the fellowship at Allandale Baptist Church and its current incarnation as Great Hills Baptist Church. Iva was a regular participant in many of the church activities, with the choir being her favorite.
It was after her relocation to Austin that Iva realized her true vocational calling in real estate. Through the persuasion of Lucille Merschbrock with Pringle Brothers, Iva became a real estate agent, and subsequently obtained her brokers license. Working out of the office of Bradfield, Cummings and Gore Iva achieved success she had never considered possible. This success was acknowledged with her being named salesman of the year in 1979 by the Austin Board of Realtors. For the remainder of her career she worked out of the Amelia Bullock office assisting people with their search for a home in Austin and making friends in the process. With the arrival of grandchildren at a time that would be considered late in life, Iva retired from real estate to devote her attention to her grandchildren.
The family expresses its gratitude to the Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center management and staff for their care and attention during her stay.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Great Hills Baptist Church Building Fund or a charity of one’s choosing.
