Ivone Peabody, age 66, passed away on February 26, 2021 after a battle with COVID. She was born in Mexico and was part of a large family with 7 siblings. She is remembered as a precocious child with a zest for life -- and sweet treats.
She married young and became a mother at the age of 17. She had her second child at the age of 22 and moved to the United States shortly after. She had her third child at the age of 30 and continued to relish her role as a stay-at-home mom, active community volunteer and church member.
Ivone used her tenacity and courage to teach herself English and made many friends very quickly in her hometowns of Globe, Arizona; Tucson, Arizona; and Austin, Texas. She became a US Citizen in 1986 and was a proud American who loved our legal court system and became a trained court interpreter.
Her family and children could always find her planning a community or church event, making homemade meals, birthday cakes or holiday treats, sewing Easter dresses and homemade Halloween costumes, and lending a hand to any neighbor or friend in need.
In her bright and healthy years, she was the life of the party, the mom to all, the champion for children, the passionate volunteer and the most engaged grandmother to her rambunctious crew of grandsons. She stood firm in her beliefs and made them known. As a devout Christian, she always stayed rooted in her faith – even through loss, divorce, tribulations -- and later several years of crippling depression and anxiety.
While the world entered lockdown in 2020, she overcame her long and debilitating battle with depression and decidedly lived life to the fullest these past six months. She was a force to be reckoned with -- only to be taken from us too soon.
Her life was a living example of one of her favorite Bible verses, Deuteronomy 31:6 — “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you or forsake you.”
Ivone is survived by her three children, Stephen, Laila and Adriana and sons-in-law Jordan and Sergio; her mother, Elena, and six siblings, Hany, Myrna, Nancy, Elian, Javier and Ricardo; her four grandsons Cole, Callum, Campbell and Matias and a baby granddaughter on the way; as well as her many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Her family will lay her to rest on Friday, March 12th with a Visitation from 12:30 - 2:30 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home (3125 N. Lamar Blvd, 78701), followed by a Graveside Service at 3:00 pm at Austin Memorial Park (2800 Hancock Drive, 78731).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pop-Up Birthday at www.popupbirthday.org or a charity of your choice.
The family would also like to extend their gratitude to the ICU nursing staff at St. David’s Medical Center North for their compassion and care of Ivone in her final days.
