

Dr. Jack Spencer Moore, an elder and Charter Member of Westminster Presbyterian Church died April 22, 2006. Dr. Moore was born in Dallas, Texas to Dr. Carl and Dorothy Moore on December 30, 1925. He was a third-generation dentist following his grandfather Dr. Jessie J. Moore and father, Dr. Carl L. Moore, Austin. Dr. Moore graduated from Austin High School and volunteered in the U.S. Navy Air Corps at age 17. He was assigned to the V-5 Naval program which was located at Southwestern University. It was there that he met Peggy Johnston who later became his bride. He served in Norman, Oklahoma and graduated from Iowa Preflight School in May 1945. When World War II ended, Dr. Moore returned to Austin, entered the University of Texas and became active in Sigma Nu Fraternity, the UT Cowboys, and was also a Varsity Cheerleader. He then attended the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Dentistry where he earned his D.D.S. and M.S.D. specializing in Oral Surgery. There he was active in Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity. In 1952 Dr. and Mrs. Moore returned to Austin where he practiced until his retirement in 1986. He was past president of West Austin Rotary Club, past president of Tenth District Dental Society, a member of the American Dental Association and the Texas Dental Association. He was also an Eagle Scout, Member of Troop 20. His loyalty to the University of Texas was paramount in the lives of the Moores especially the trek to Dallas every year to attend the Texas-OU game and to visit with friends from Oklahoma. Dr. Moore is survived by his wife of 57 years, Peggy Johnston Moore, daughters Becky Moore McDonald and husband Brent; Diane Moore Wagner and husband Lonnie. Three granddaughters survive, Amanda McDonald, Megan McDonald and Lauren Wagner. A brother Carl Leslie Moore is deceased. Other survivors are cousins Dr. James Moore, Lakewood, N.Y., Spencer Davies, Houston, TX, Scott Davies, Wichita, KS. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Boy Scout Troop 20. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2006 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd. Services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3208 Exposition Blvd., at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 with The Reverend William F. Clark, Jr. and The Reverend Kathryn E. Anderson officiating. Interment will be held at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Dr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society.
